I am getting married in May. My "maid of honor" is my best friend of 25 years and is male. Is there a name for him? Groom of honor??

My best friend is just that...my best friend. He doesn't know my finance. I want him next to me. My husband to be is fine with it.

What does being gay having anything to do with anything?! I have a male friend that I have been best friends with since jr. high. He's a brother to me.

Q:My Male of Honor

I want my best friend, who is a man, to be my "maid of honor." What should he be called, and how should his role be adjusted? I can't picture him walking down the aisle right next to my husband's best man.

A:These days the term "honor attendant" is popular. As for his duties, obviously he won't be helping you change into and out of your gown.

But there are plenty of other ways he can help. His first priority is to be an unstinting source of support on the big day. Also, he needs to make sure the other attendants are where they should be and up to speed on their responsibilities.

During the ceremony, he stands next to you. Some tasks can be modified: A friend of mine, for example, arranged for her male friend to hand her bouquet to her grandmother, sitting in a front pew, after she'd made her way to the front of the church (he didn't want to stand there holding a bouquet). As for how you all depart, the bridal couple's two "best" men can walk solo down the aisle, one after the other.

My maid of honor is also a good male friend.

I just called him Man of Honor. He liked it.

A best man. It is perfectly ok for both the bride and groom to have best men. Or for the bride to have a best man and the groom to have a maid of honor, or two maids of honor. Whatever works for you!

First of all in response to "tonks_op" answer...Its your wedding and you can have whatever you want. My mom just got married in Sept. of 05 and her best friend stood up for her and we called him the "Man of Honor", my step-dads best friend stood up for him and we called her the "Best Lady"...so there you have it and good luck...

Call all of bridal party "attendants". On the lists, have both first attendants, be just that.
