I've been doing a lot of thought lately.

I want to pull out a fast for myself, to help me meditate in different ways, however, I'm worried about a few things.

1. How much water am I allowed a day?
2. How long is safe?
3. I'm fat, but losing weight. Will it cause me to put on more weight when I am done?
4. Can I safely exercise while fasting?
6. [This is no joke] In a fast, am I allowed to masturbate, or must it be total deprivation?
7. Will this actually help me understand my spiritual self?

Also, if you have anything else to say, please, do.

Note: I'm not a Muslim

To begin with, fasting should always be done in private. No one except God should know that you are fasting, see the story in the Bible about "tooting your own horn," and reaping treasure here rather than in Heaven.

1. As much as you want.
2. Ghandi fasted for months, do what your heart tells you is right.
3. If you body goes into "starvation mode" it will transfer all of the calories you take in later and store them as fat. There is a danger there, so be sure to eat healthy well-balanced meals when you finished with your fast.
4. Yes, in general. Your body will be in a weakened condition so you should not over exert yourself.
5/6 (you skipped 5). I don't believe we should masturbate, so I will leave you to decide this for yourself.
7. Yes, if done prayerfully and in secret, be sure to study, mediate, and read your Bible.

Fasting is the way to open human eye spirit. When body pleased, spirit blind. Jesus said "And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, 'The old is better". Old wine meant good spirit, wineskins meant body.

1. In bible, when Moses, Elijah, and Jesus fasted they hadn't drunk any water, but either drinking should be allowed.
2. Do it step by step, 1 day then 2 days then 3 days until you reach the limit of your body and your faith.
3. If you want to reach enlightenment then you have to put limit on your desire, eating is one of example since it isn't healthy to much eating.
4. Light exercises should be safety unless you have exceeded 2 days fasting.
5/6. Sex is a gift but you should wisely choose the right moment to do it.
7. Fasting is only one of the requirement to achieve enlightenment, as well as cleaning your heart from resentment and other evil things, make your heart to be easy to shape, steadfast in effort.

not sure about understanding your spiritual self. Are you fasting to seek out god, or for your health?

You will be wasting your time fasting for spiritual reasons.
You simply need to be saved. Obedience is better than sacrifice. God wants your will and your heart and for you to repent of your sins including the solo sex. (and any porn you might have with it) Bring every thought into captivity. Pray that the blood of Jesus will cleanse you from all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness and uncleanness of the flesh. Then you might consider fasting for spiritual discipline to bring the body under subjection. Definitely start with your heart though because what comes from the heart is spoken and is what defiles a man.
