When you are making your reservations, the website will give you the departure time and the (local) arrival time. Security lines can be horrendous--- so don't skimp on the recommended check-in time. I have missed being allowed on a flight from LA to go home to HI, because I was confused by the boarding pass computer and, literally, checked in 2 minutes past the required time. so better to sit at the gate with a book for an extra 1/2 hour, than miss your flight or be totally hassled and full of anxiety.

You will have to get on a connecting flight in Honolulu for Kauai. You can stay in the secure area, however, and they will transfer your baggage, so no security worries.

I mis-read you question and thought you were concerned with hotel check in. (which I always found annoying if I arrive too early!) So I'll leave my answer about that anyway, just in case you can use the info: I've found most hotels are considerate of the traveler and will let you check in early if the room is ready, or you can at least leave your bags in a secure place in the lobby, use their facilities etc. while you wait for the room to be ready. Make the reservations that work best for you, then talk to your hotel. They want you to be happy, so they'll help as much as they can.

There are many inter-island flights every day--- and they usually take about 30-45 minutes, air time. We have a couple new airlines in addition to Aloha and Hawaiian for inter-island--- and there are periodic 'fare-wars'--- so shop on line for your flights and yo can save quite a bi of money. Checking in from the outer islands is a pleasure next to San Fran-- there are very short, if any, lines--- and you don't need the 90 minutes before check-in that you often need in the big airports. I've hit the airport 20 minutes before flight time and made it--- but be on the safe side and allow 45 minutes. Kick back--- Hawaii airports are pretty and fun--
Aloha!

There are non-stop flights from the west coast to Lihue (LIH), Kauai's airport. They tend to be more expensive than the flights to HNL (Honolulu), but at least then you don't have to catch an inter-island flight. If your ticket is from SFO to Honolulu, make sure you already have your inter-island ticket booked. Don't wait until you arrive in Honolulu to get your Lihue flight! They fill up fast and you can be 'stranded' on Oahu...though there are worse places you can be!

Here's the deal: check in 90 minutes to 2 hours prior to your flight out of SFO. That should ensure plenty of time to get through security and to have your bags checked. (If you print out your boarding passes at home the night before, it should save you some time.) Most airlines offer this service for free to the traveler. There are 3 airlines that have inter-island flights: Hawaiian, Aloha, and Go! There is a fare sale going on right now and fares between islands are running as low as $20 each way, but those seats are usually purchased right away and they're the earliest and latest flights of the day. You probably won't pay more than $39 each way though.

Aloha :)

Well i think it's a 3 hour difference between san fran and hawaii, leave about 1-2 hours for traffic and get your bags from the airport so around 10am I think would be good. I'm in iraq right now and I can't remember where Kauai is, sorry. Ya there's quite a bit of daily flights between islands I think there about 50each way. They won't take long I'm sure less than an hour...have fun!

I would leave at 9-10am from LA, and arrive in Honolulu, Hawaii at 10:30am., one hour check-in, and Yes, you will have too make flight arrangement to Kauai. Leave, Honolulu, Hawaii at 12 noon, arrive in Kauai at 12:40pm.. Follow the crowd to luggage/baggage, call a taxi or rental car service, and leave airport to hotel designation at 1:30pm., arrive at hotel at 2:00 pm. Yes , there are daily flights to Oahu, and flight time approximately 35-45 minutes by Jets, and Island Hop will take about an 1-2 hrs. per flight. ENJOY!

Sometimes, confronting laws is how you have to play to be right. Justice will prevail and America needs a good President, an intelligent guy and even if it is true, which I think it's not, why would we avoid a real leader, a real political man, a real candidate and a real patriot to be the most powerful man? President does not have to be a the American stereotyped cowboy, willing wars, powers, leading protectionism and adding more and more privacy. I think time has come to change; to change our way of thinking, to change our values and starts to act right. It is time to change our actions. Because we have the fate of humanity in our hands, because we have the power to make things bright, instead of being dark, to take our step and put their heading trajectory back to right way. Obama is truly a good guy, and he is something more than what american president had always been; he his willing good to his country. This is what a President should be doing, this what a guy should be willing, no matter where he was born.
