A spasm is when a group of muscles cramps up and contracts involuntarily. Most common places are in your back or in your calves. It can happen for a variety of reasons, but mineral/vitamin deficiencies or overworked muscles are the most popular causes. I have never heard of a spasm in your shoulder blade. This may be a pulled muscle, rather than a spasm.

This feels like tightness in the muscles in the area, and is sometimes, but not always, painful.
There can be a Muscle spasm over the posterior scapula which suggests trapezius strain. But I think you should call the hospital line, and just ask them if it is possible. That's what I would do.

Muscle spasm is an intense reaction on the part of large muscle groups to injury or strain. In spasm, muscle groups contract very strongly in order to brace the injured structures. While painful and inconveniencing, muscle spasms provide protection to the body during times of injury and injury healing.

Muscles consist of muscle fibers. Each fiber is a Muscle cell. On the surface of the cell potassium ions rest. Inside the cell sodium ions rest. During contraction potassium goes inside and sodium comes outside the cell membrane. During strenuous exercise and when potassium ions fail to come out the muscle fails to relax. This is spasm. It can occur to any skeletal, plain or even cardiac muscle. Massage and exposure to fresh air cures it.

There are differant forms of spasms. Either you lack sufficient protein in your diet, or your nervous system is exhausted.
Nervous spasms are caused by false electro signal being sent to the muscle group.
Lack of protein also causes this.

It's a nerve that causes your muscle to twitch, and it can affect any muscle in your body.
