I would just order them online. I would just google the name of the product that you want to use, and it will bring up multiple websites to purchase off of. I my experience 1-800-PET-MEDS is not the cheapest out there. Also, Sentinel is a great product and it is really worth the money.

While pretty much all the answers are okay, my experience is that it is cheaper getting it from the vet than elsewhere, if not right away, it is in the long run. Flea medication you can buy it just about anywhere, but when it comes to heartworm prevention, and/or a combinations of all of them, like in Revolution, you must have a prescription in order to get it on line. A lot of vets will not give you a prescription for it, and those who do, there's a charge to it, added to the price you have to pay to get it.
When you buy it from your vet, you'll save in the long run, because while you do that, you're also building a relationship with you vet. I know several personally that have attitudes about it, because it makes them feel as their business is not good enough to buy the prevention that your dog needs, but it is good enough in case of an emergency.
I'm not saying that it is right nor wrong, I'm just telling you what my personal experience is.

We use a liquid that you put on once a month between their shoulders, on the skin. It covers for fleas, heartworm, ear mites, and like three other things. It's called Revolution and it's cheaper for me to get it at the vet's. Just ask them how much it would cost and compare it to petmeds.com.

It all depends on how much your vet charges. I used to get my dogs' medications on-line, but then found out that my vet charges less. It never hurts to price around. There are several websites that I have checked. Here are a few.
www.1800petmeds.com
www.petrx.com
www.pet-medication.bz
www.thepetcenter.com/pha/pharmacy.html
Be sure to ask your vet's office for a price too. At my vet's office, they give you a deal: if you buy a 6 pack of Frontline, they will give you 1 tube (one month supply) for free. Good Luck!!!

Vet bills can be extremely expensive. I would maybe try 1-800-pet meds, tell them what you were told by your vet and see what they suggest, maybe call other vets in town and tell them your situation, possibly they may have a better affordable solution, or a payment plan. Hope you find something that works, take care!!

It is cheaper if your vet will give you a prescription so you can buy it elsewhere. However, most won't since they will be losing income.
