Would you get any diseases if you touch a syringe to shoot heroin or meth without using any gloves even if you didn't poke yourself with a needle?

A couple years ago I've noticed that I've seen a syringe lying on the ground and I've picked it up without using any gloves and threw it away so nobody else would see it, fortunately I did not poke myself with the syringe.

Anything is possible, but I would say it's highly unlikely. First off, you don't know how long that syringe has been sitting there. It may well be that any diseases that were present had been exposed to the air for a long enough time to kill them. Also, a lot of the things you have to worry about are transmitted by blood so just handling the syringe is very unlikely to expose you to the person's blood unless there was some on the barrel of the syringe and you had an open cut on your hand.

If you are seriously concerned, you might want to talk to your doctor and they can tell you if there is reason to be concerned. If nothing else they can run the usual tests just to set your mind at ease.

If your skin did not get pierced by the needle you need not worry. Most diseases cannot survive on the outside of a syringe for long. The HIV/AIDS virus lasts a few seconds to a minute max in contact with the air. I wouldn't worry.

The odds of you contracting anything are very slim as you can only get most diseases with some sort of blood to blood contact. If it would make you feel better, you could get tested but it is not necessary.

Well, if it did anything to you you'd most likely know by now.

Unless you have very thin skin or a cut or something, nothing can really happen.
