Well new kittens are 8 weeks old and i just got them about 2 days ago. I have two siblings, a boy and a girl. They were supposively strays, although they have warmed up quite a bit and enjoy human contact. They are very sweet and cute, but VERY playful! One moment they will be attacking each other like they will kill each other then the next moment they will be cuddling side by side. My concern is that they recently (about 3 days ago) got spayed and neutered, so the humane society told us to have them take it easy. Should i be concerned about this crazy agressive playing? should i stop it or just let them figure things out and play? is this a bad habit for them to learn in the future... or maybe im just being overly worried about this whole thing... i dont know....

Well about them taking it easy, its kinda hard to control unless you separate them. When I had mine spayed and neutered they usually perked up on their own within a few days. About them being on the attack-ish side with each other, I wouldn't worry about it unless they are drawing blood or really causing harm to each other. We have two very spoiled cats that we adore, one male pure Siamese and the other a female Persian/Siamese mix. They love each other but they do this weird attack thing, where they wrestle and bite each other slap their tails on the floor and lunge at each other. At first it really concerned me.....but now I realise they are only playing. Its actually funny to watch them, its almost as though they are trying to prove who's tougher. As long as your new babies aren't really hurting one another a great amount I would just let them be. If it does become a greater problem, speak to a vet about it. They also make this liquid (similar to a glade plug-in) originally developed to discourage urine marking by cats, since it is believed cats will not "spray" areas they have previously marked with facial pheromones. It is also believed to be effective in reducing other stress-related behaviours. You may buy this at any local pet supply store usually, anyways, congrats on your new kitties, and good luck!!!

What concerns me is that they are only 8 wks. old and already had surgery?? I know that is required by rescues so I assume they pushed to have it done so early. Yikes. Normally, 4 months age minimum.

Anyhow, the play you see is normal. It should not bother the stitches at all. However, may want to seperate for a few so they get enough rest, just in case. Especially since so young to have had surgery.

The more you handle gently and encourage them to be gentle, no biting, the better. So they do not want to scratch or bite at ankles, hands, etc. You can nurture the gentle side of them by discouraging them from nipping or scratching when being held. Stroking the face and mouth and paws alot so they learn not to hurt you. I would use some can food on my fingers to teach them to lick, not bite. If misbehaving then put down and tell them "no" and ignore for awhile. This will encourage less "fighting " between them. Cats do know English.

i think its normal for them to be so agressive... did you have brothers and sisters growing up? do you remember being playfully agressive? i do! and for some reason it doesn't hurt when you are a kid. same with kittens. i thought my cats would kill themselves before they turned one because they were so agressive and always running into things or falling off of things.

but they don't know any better to be careful around their stiches. maybe keep them seperated for a few days while they heal. i agree that you should call the vet. he is the expert after all, not all these yahoos on yahoo answers.

That's typical kitten behavior. I personally would have separated them for a day or 2 to heal.

that's kind of early to get them spayed and neutered. call the local vet and get some free advice on that.

both my cats were the same the vet said they would be sleepy not eat much and try not to let them fight, as soon as we got them home they were eating as normal running round the house like nutters and fighting like crazy. and they were both fine. so i would just let them be.
