I've finally found something that works for me. I use Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo. Expensive, but marvelous. It has menthol so it exposes the scalp. AFTER that, I use Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment (The orange stuff, best you can buy over the counter). Lastly, I use the Tea Tree conditioner to moisturize.

If that still doesn't work, it's time to see a dermatologist and get a prescription. Don't stop until you get it fixed. Unfortunately, people react very negatively to dandruff, especially if you're young, and assume things about you that can hurt you socially and professionally.

I doubt wearing a hat matters either way, except that it keeps the dandruff on your head instead of releasing into the air.

Try Neutrogena's Dandruff Shampoo w/ Panthenol Zinc which is what Head and Shoulders is also made of. I wouldn't recommend dandruff shampoos with Coal Tar unless you have a more serious condition-it might make your dandruff worse. If you have access to getting hair products from another country, say from Europe or Asia, there's Elida/Unilever's shampoo called Sunsilk anti-dandruff shampoo which is also made with Panthenol Zinc.

Dandruff is caused by a dry scalp. You need a medicated shampoo. (head and shoulders for example) I'm not sure if a hat effects it or not. If the shampoo does not work, see a doctor.
