Get a laser pointer. No cat on earth can resist it.

Once cats reach maturity, they sleep alot. I think I read somewhere cats sleep like 18 to 20 hours a day. Thats' just what cats do. If your cat is getting heavy, maybe playing with the cat a little bit more would help with the weight issue. Go to the pet store and buy some cat toys that you can play with the cat with and that will help.

Turn off the TV and get some cat toys and play with the cat. It is normal for the cat to cat nap esp during the day for it conserves energy. Cats will also play with toys-like mouse toys, balls etc by themselves but the toys have to be made available. A animal is also a small creation of God that has memory, feelings, dreams, expresses emotion-esp Love and should not be thrown away-why o many are killed every day in local pounds-because people simply throw away-am glad you are sticking up for the cat-but do entice, encourage your cat to play or get it another cat=if male female and if female a male for cats will play with another and even other animals.

Firstly, you don't throw a cat away, secondly cats are only active when they have to be...example, chasing down dinner. So if your kitty doesn't have to chase down dinner then you need to play with them. I have little toy mice that I get at the pet store, 69 cents each. My cat loves to sneak up on them, throw then in the air and bat them around the floor. The only down side is she likes to bat them under the entertainment centre and then I have to get down on my knees with a broom and scoop them all back out. She plays with them all the time, she has a good time and I laugh alot watching her do it.

cats usually sleep like 16+ hours a day. I think you should also tell me where you live so I can go and cave your mom's face in with my bare hands. If you buy a cat you shouldn't just "throw it away", is she really irresponsible or something?

Anyway, you should try giving it some catnip and try to play with it using cat-toys.

you cant throw a living organism away like a piece of trash..if you want your cat to get more active you have to start playing with her/him...talk in a real excited voice and when it plays praise her a lot for it..my cat use to run after fake mice so much he would be panting..

or let her/him outdoors..i think cats get bored stuck inside all the time..so would you..

I noticed about my cat, they're always looking for something new to do. there's only so many things they can explore indoors before they run out of things and get bored. then they just sit around and sleep. letting him outside will make a big difference.

Maybe your cat is sick..
Try to talk to your mom about taking it to the vet.
Really talk to her about it let her know that you care and are worried!
Best wishes.

cats are just kind of lazy, but if it's really that inactive, you may want to take it to the vet and ask about diet recommendations or blood tests
