I'm 30 years old with a degree in psychology. I did two years of graduate school before I realized counseling wasn't what I wanted to do. I have a lot of interests, but no "real world" experience in any of those; at least nothing that will lead to a career. My lifelong dream was to be a pilot, but I'm not allowed a pilot's license because I have a history of migraines. I feel that there's something more for me out there, but I feel that I'm too old to start anything new, and I should just be satisfied with what I have. What options do we "stuck-in-a-rutt"ers have?

Death is the only thing that stops progress. and even then I'm not sure. If you feel you are missing something go find it. The longer you the older you will be asking the same question. Also..don't give up on your dream of being a pilot. Think outside of the box and don't focus on what you "cant" do. Instead focus on the possibilities. They are endless and completely up to you. Being decisive on this will be what moves you towards your dream.
When you are in a rut its because you haven't made a clear choice. If you aren't sure about something or cant make a decision you will stay stuck until you choose to stop thinking and start doing. 30 is the perfect age to realize you aren't where or who you want to be. You have some life experience under your belt and starting to see the future differently than you did when you were 20. "if you build it they will come"....That line is from the Movie Field of dreams. Whatever you decide is what will happen. It is the rule for humanity. So decide and begin your adventure. It is something to be excited about....not to dread or second guess.
Just do it~

You are not old. You are young. And your basic bachelors degree in Psychology can be used as a starting point for many career paths, not just counseling. (Teaching and management comes to my mind too.)

Instead of going back to school, I suggest you just get another type of job and start working at it. Experiment a little and even do a little volunteer work. Is there also something related to aviation (other than being a pilot) that you can look into?

You are never too old to start down a new path in life. One of my uncles did it when he was 62. Only certain careers like pilot, specially professional pilot, you should make up your mind and start early. Even at your age you can get a licence, but some organizations may not give you a start. But for most other professions, you can still begin, you are only 30.

you can try to take classes for a small planes like SESNA or others, you may have close to your area, only for hobby, on the side but not as a career.
I was listening this lady talking about 40's life , is actually when you start your life, pamper your self, is after you race your children and after you have done so much that after 40s life you can have time fo your self, before that you spend time fo tohers, offcourse you can start something new, why not, keep looking inside, start with some volunteers jobs, join some clubs, you will find your self.
but please stop doing counseling, these people ( like me ) needs a good counselors other wise there will be more crazy people , don't stop working find something else in your area for the moment.

I have known and heard of many people who have changed careers past 30. Heck, Col. Sanders didn't open KFC until he was 65. I am almost 51 and am thinking of going back for my Masters degree and either teaching,or going into counseling. I knew a woman who went back to college for a degree at 70. The only time it is too late is if you become feeble minded, or are 6 feet under.

As a counselor, you know you're never too old to start anew. But do you have a family to support? Hostages you've already given to the future will of course need to be taken into account.

Within the constraints you think appropriate, decide what you want to do, and go for it. With your degree, you are better equipped to start over than most people. You won't get any younger while you wait, will you?

You are an interesting person to have this faith in the world of answers. Stay with your training and especially with research into headaches. You don't need a degree to help the depressed but do need a license in the town. Use only the names that are legal like wholesome healer or the like. There are many patients willing to have their brain cut to get rid of depression. Work with an expert who is as young as you are.

Do what ever you want, you get one shot at life don't waste it, why die unhappy knowing you never got to do what it was you wanted to? You are never too old, there are people who are in their 80's and doing extreme sports like sky diving cause they wanna go down knowing they did what they wanted to do.
Don't waste life! it is a very precious gift and can be cut short at any time so start working on what you want to do, maybe save up and backpack around some countries you may learn who you are
and what it is you want to do in the most strange of places.

I'm sorry you are not allowed to be a pilot, but I think you are NEVER too old to start a new path in life. My mom always told me to follow my heart, follow my mind, and do what I want to do (just not anything too dangerous or gross!) haha
I think you should try some stuff out, see what fascinates you, try to see what you can do to get that excitement in your life everyday!
I love working with animals, so my mom told me to grow up, and work with animals, even if it meant going to another country to do it. She said that if you want to get up and go to work to everyday, doing something you love, then you're probably one of the luckiest workers out there!
DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO!!!! good luck!!!
