Personally I think most separations between people occur when there is an identity taken over that of being human (to reference a recent answer on this site by ravi shankar). For example, when you put your religious identity above your human identity, you create something that allows you to be different (often 'superior') to others, and in the name of that identity can commit atrocious acts. When you know someone is really the same as you, it is much much harder to commit a wicked act against them.
And more specifically, most times when people grow angry at words or opposing views, it is due to fear. Fear of being incorrect, fear that your path is not the 'right' path. Fear is the enemy of love, for it serves to seperate us from eachother, and only by coming closer and embracing eachother as brothers and sisters, seeing that we have more that connects than divides us, will we be able to move forward as a species.

If you want to be moderate, reasonable and fair, I'd suggest going to the philosophy or possible the psychology section. In R & S pretty much everyone comes into the debate already thinking they're right. In the place with people of that type of mentality, you have to pick a side or you'll be everybody's enemy, just like in jail. As far as world peace, I think R & S is microcosmic of the endless religious conflicts that pervade history. No one can agree, not even to disagree, so the conflict degenerates into a test of wills and, on the world stage, justifies mass destruction and violence.

The people on our left and right hate us and constantly pick at our faith with whatever excuse they can find to make us look bad. But as christians we don't take that apporach we don't bring others down so we look better. Not all christians are strong christians though and some can't handle the persecution, But granted we are all humans with Ego's and even though we don't all walk the straitest path, God's love is great enough to accept whoever believes in Him. So even though not everyone is always on the same level as our brothers just like you who don't truely know God still has a chance to experience true love. World peace is a lie, Any strong christian understands God is the only holder of Peace, and it isn't achievable here, it is Heaven where anyone will ever see peace. I hope I respected your question and hopefully help you see the grass on our side. Have a good Day.

As a fellow moderate, I agree. But really, most of my enemies are atheists and Christians. I think they will sooner or later kill one another off in some Religion vs Science debate gone horribly wrong. Then all will be left will be a handful of moderate believers of both theories (rare on both accounts). I've found many allies on the Buddhist, Pagan, and LaVey Satanist side on this site. But, you are right. Most people don't like moderates because they then realize their "infallible logic" has fallacy.
World peace huh? Well, first off we'd need a LOT fewer people. Then more wisdom. Yeah...not going to happen in several lifetimes.
Oh, and your icon is simply adorable.

Odd that I have found quite the opposite. Everyone on the religious channel loves me. I am always fair and decisive with my questions. It's quite easy to get people to listen to logic and reason if you don't show your prejudices against one side or the other. You can't like an Agnostic try and straddle the fence pretty soon you find a pit bull on both sides and you cant lower your foot on either. You must be decisive but make sure what side you are on from the get go. Hisszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Well I don't have to be moderate...but reasonable and fair. I try. We won't every have world peace until the Lord returns. All we can do is slow the process of all the nastiness in the world, we can't stop it.

"Did you notice if you're trying to be moderate, reasonable and fair...?
...on the religious forums, you end up with enemies to your left and to your right?"
Yep.
"How does that bode for world peace?"
You're tsking this a bit seriously, aren't you? I don't think the 2 are related.

There's no such thing as "moderate, reasonable and fair" on a religious forum. There are too many alligators out there fighting for supremacy. World peace? Much of the lack of it is *due* to religion!

I have been moderate, reasonable, and fair. I have gotten a few thumbs down here and there but never any enemies. I am sorry for those who have acted that way towards you. I am sure that does not assist in world peace at all.
