No, it only has a gasoline engine. However, it might be based ton the fact that the third-generation Prius will have a smaller battery because it consists of lithium-ion, not nickel-hydrid like in the second generation. I've notice that for each future generation of the Prius that batteries are getting smaller, yet have more POWER. So, therefore it is possible for the smaller Yaris to be a hybrid just like the discontinued two-seater production model, the Honda Insight.

THE YARIS IS NOT A HYBRID. IT HAS A SMALL 1.5 L FOUR CYLINDER THAT HAS JUST OVER 100 HORSEPOWER. THE SAME ENGINE CAN BE FOUND THE SCION XA AND Xb. THEY ARE VERY VERY GOOD ON GAS AND THE RELIABILITY IS ALSO ABOVE AVERAGE. IF YOU'RE NOT AWARE OF IT, THE SCION XA WILL GIVE YOU THE SAME RIDE, HANDLING, AND ECONOMY BUT HAS MUCH MORE EQUIPMENT FOR LESS MONEY. CHECK BOTH OF THEM OUT AND SEE WHAT YOU THINK. TO ME THE YARIS IS A MUCH BETTER LOOKING CAR THAN THE SCION BUT IT'S ALL IN WHAT YOU PERSONALLY ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOUR NEW CAR THAT COULD BE A DECIDING FACTOR.

No. It gets great gas mileage because it's an I-4 and very small but not a hybrid.
