the main parts are mostly made up of aluminium alloys. why? to decrease as much weight as possible. the alluminum component is relatively light and inexpensive. but that doesnt mean alluminium alloys are weak.

the "keel-bone" of the aircraft, the part which merges the fuselage with the wing, is ALWAYS (Boeing airplanes) made up of a titanium alloy. why not just titanium? too expensive.

fun-fact: the skin of Boeing airplanes are about 2mm thick =P

We have quite a few red necks here in the Greater Everett area (Marysville) and somehow they learned how to put the parts together. Most came from the pulp mills and when they closed the Boeing Company moved in and gave them books (with a lot of pictures) and somehow they figured it out.
