And on top of the airfare he will have to pay taxes. So it would not be worth it regardless of whether or not it's legit.

It could be legit or It could be a timeshare scam. You get a call saying that you've won a trip - and when you get there they make you sit through sales pitches on purchasing vacation property. This happened to me once, and it was a total waste of time and an ordeal. Tell your friend to ask whether or not this is related to a timeshare or purchase of vacation property.

I would also do a web search on the company and call the BBB in their City/State to see if they have any complaints.

It's probably a time share offer... I've done it a few times... one time my wife and I put four of them back to back... we spent about 3 weeks in florida and it included a cruise to the bahamas! We had to pay taxes... the who thing cost us about $400.

However, we had to sit through a time share sells pitch for about 3 hours lost time. And the way they paint it up, it's very tempting to say yes. For a lot of people, that "FREE" trip ends up costing them 10 to 20 thousand.

The accomidations weren't too bad. One was sorta sucky... one was really nice.. Probably depends on the group offering the deal.... I've heard of a few horror stories... but for the most part... I feel like I took advantage and got a great deal.

BTW, just for the record... A time share is like a Hotel or Resort where you purchase a deed for a slice of time. Let's say you purchase the 3rd week of July. That means, for a fixed price, of say... $13,480, you purchase that week, for the rest of your life. You can go stay at their luxury resort every year. However, most of them require an additional maintenance fee of $150 to $250 per year. Some of them or members of a cooperative and allows you to trade your week at your resort for a week at a different resort in a differnt location... and they are all over the world. Some people sell their week in their local newspaper and make a profit, or even give it to a friend or employee as a gift. But most people that I know who have purchased one will tell you that they sorta regret it and feel that it's not worth nearly as much as they thought it would be when they purchased.

If your friend is the type that has a problem saying no to high pressured sales, and has access to a credit card... tell him not to go. If he has strong will power and understand the the time value of money... go for it... but don't expect too much.

Scam, the airfare will probably cost more than the vacation!

Tell them to read the fine print carefully.

Chances are there are restrictions, they probably have to attend a timeshare presentation at the resort, and they probably need to 'qualify' for that, i.e. meet certain income and age requirements. As long as they meet all of the restrictions and are willing to take the presentation, they can take advantage of the offer. Make sure to tell them not to fib about the qualifications though... most of timeshares are strict about such things and will add to the fine print that fees will apply if qualifications are not met. Again, they need to read all of the fine print very carefully.

i won a trip to veges same terms they can do that most of the time due to a promotion my trip they were promoting a new resort so the resort bought a block of rooms for certain hotels there in veges if that's the case(catch) then you get the room for free and more incentives like free ground transportation, maybe free food vouchers to eat on ask him/her to find out what is expected of him/her maybe nothing depends on how it was won if he/she hasn't taken trip have them check into name your price.com and start out with $5 depending on arrival/departure $5 will get 2 round trip for il tax $80 no kidding

It's legit. The thing is, it will not be worth it. They want to sell you something. You are better off buying plane tickets to Hawaii and enjoying the vacation on your own terms.

Let me guess...your friend won it by putting their name into a drawing to win a car, but then they tried to sell you a timeshare... and as a consolation your friend got the worst rooms in the "hotel"...been there. Advice: Don't give out your name and address to random carnival or mall drawings.
