will a 2 ohm sub work with a 1.4 ohm sub running on the same amp?

Though I wouldn't advise it. Electrically it can work, but make sure that your amp is stable to loads less than 1 ohm, as you will have a total load below that 1 Ohm if you wire them in parallel. Not many amps are built to handle that kind of impedance...

One thing to note, the lower impedance speaker will be drawing the majority of power from the amp.
