The major characteristic of human beings is their tendency to self-destruct. I think this has been embedded in their genes since the earliest time when the first hominids appeared on the face of earth. This "self destruction instinct" always surfaces every now and then. In fact, the history of the human race is filled with so many instances of self-destructive tendencies that helped shape human kind up to this point in time. The tendency to litter and generate trash is just one of the many manifestation of this instinct. Humans in their need to explore and discover things are actually destroying the shelter of their planet.

I guess it's because that some of them believe that everyone else out there is trying not to litter and make the world better, while they are actually just thinking the same thing. So in the end everyone litters, trying not to feel bad, because they will make up for it some how or another...

I dont litter but think about it,,,how is littering a piece of paper for instance harming the envirorment.It looks untidy but that paper really came from a tree & will go back into the ground.And if not there on the street ,,then there at the garbage dump.lol.

I have no idea - just pure laziness and a lack of respect for their environment I guess.
I hate litterbugs - this is really one of my pet hates - there's just no excuse for it

i littter cuz i can care less. the immidiate effects wont be felt in my lifetime. and even if they are it wont be that major. they say global warming will take 50 years until major consequences. by then ill be dead. i guess i realize how insignificant my life is. sry if i hurt your feelings but thats just the "truf" or truth.
