For me? Labradors. Because of how fun they are. lol Seriously Labs are a very fun loving breed and they are active which is great because I like to hike and bike and stuff as well as be lazy from time to time. Labs can fit perfectly into both situations. And because of their wonderful intelligent nature they are a blast to show. Go to any show and visit the Lab ring and you'll see nothing but shiny wagging tails all the way around. Can't say that for the Chi ring! lol
Edit: Shelties may LOOK like a miniature Collie but they are a purebred and have no affiliation with Collies. Never tell a Sheltie person that, they'll slap you!! lol

Good question and it got me thinking. (That don't happen very often. Me thinking, that is.) If the world was all kindness and light I would like nothing more than a goldie. A golden retriever, that is. My dad has a goldie, and it's the sweetest and smartest big dog I've ever seen.
Now since I'm single and live in a not so nice place, I have memories of the German Shepard dogs that people used to have to guard their place of business. If the dog knew you, you had no problem. And Shep's are pretty dogs also.
For me, in my current conditions, I would have to say a Shep would be my best dog. Pretty, loyal, and deadly if push came to shove. I would like to have the retriever, but they just lick you. And it takes a long time to disable an intruder with your tounge.

I have had a lot of different types of dogs. It depends what you like. I have had Golden Retrievers, Labs, mixes, Shelties, and Cocker Spaniels. Golden retrievers are great family dogs. They are gentle and very smart, and easy to work with for obedience. They are beautiful too! Downside is all of the hair. They have two different types of hair, one for show and one for "working". The working type is easier if you don't want the hassle of vacuuming incessantly.
Shelties are great dogs and very very smart! They are a little "yappy" but are very willing to do anything you ask of them.
Cocker Spaniels are by far my favorite breed. They are very loyal and so loveable. They are small enough that you can have them in a small place, but large enough that you don't have to worry about hurting them or stepping on them. (always my fear with little dogs).
Most importantly, find a reputable breeder with whatever breed you look at. A pure bred dog will hardly ever be under 150 bucks. Go and see the parents for temperment, and for looks. You can get an idea about the hair and color and most importantly the disposition of your puppy by looking to the parents of the litter. Be sure, when you go to pick a puppy, you look for the one that is friendly and trusting and allows you to do just about anything to it. (pet its belly, pull on his ears, stuff like that). Good luck in your search!

The best dog for me would be my dobie, Madison. I always wanted one growing up, and once I started living on my own, I got one. She keeps me very active while trying to get her exercised all year long, in addition to challenging me to come up with new games and tricks to keep her mentally stimulated. If I'm having a bad day, she knows it and is perfectly content to throw aside thoughts of going to the park and just lie with me on the sofa watching tv all evening. If I'm in a good mood then she's completely exuberant, spinning around in circles until I ask her to do something, like go outside or a trick. All she wants to do is please me and be with me. My family has had many different breeds: mutts, collies, poodles, italian greyhounds, shepards; but I have found the breed that best suits my personality and lifestyle. I'm so happy I didn't listen to people who cautioned me about their 'aggressiveness' or that 'they turn on you'. What a bunch of garbage. I love my dog and I know I would be a lot less happy if I didn't have her.

The best dog for me is my dog, Angel, a miniature poodle!!!
Poodles are very intelligent, active, playful and very loving.
She gets my attention by licking my leg or pulling my pants/shirt/shorts after she goes to her toilet, so I can wipe her.
When I buy her a small stuffed animal, I give it a name, then I put it in a bag with all her other toys. After a few min., I ask for it and she gives it to me.
She ALWAYS know when I will go out. She sits beside the door so she can run towards the car.
She runs to her daddy (my husband) when she knows I am mad.
She never wakes me up. She only wakes up my husband when she needs to be wiped or when she wants to go out. One time, I pretended to be sleeping and I saw her staring at me, nose to nnose. When she thought I was still asleep, she jumped on my husband instead.
She is a funny, funny dog and I love her soooo much!

I have 5 different dogs. But my favourite by far is Eddy my border collie. it might help that i live on a farm but he was a runt and so has brain damage and i give him magnesium and liver stuff every day but hes like my best friend and is so loyal, never barks unless there is need too and loves just running around outside and chasing my donkeys. border collies are so awesome, but no good if you have no room for them

Well right now the best dogs for me are my 2 mixed breeds.
One, she's a Shepherd, Husky mix, the other girl a Border Collie mix.
I don't have a certain breed for me, but what ever dog picks me.

The best breed for me is Chihuahuas. I have one and he is absolutly great. He is small, loves to be held, is very smart, not hard to groom, and he eats very little compared to a big dog. He is also always glad to see me. He always cheers me up when I have a bad day. Oh, he is also super cute.
