I don't think it was ever really retired. It was mainly used in the Gulf War, was taken off the line, and put back into use in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm sure that when a situation calls for it, it'll be up and ready for action.

No. Back in 1991, during the first Gulf War, they preformed brilliantly and the powers to be decided not to retire them as they were going to do before the war. They are still being used today.

Not yet.

There was talk about retiring that aircraft just prior to the first Gulf War. It played such a crucial role, the Air Force decided to keep it. Had they not, the US Army would have tried to pick it up.

They are crucial in missions in Iraq today. I'm not sure if they are used in Afghanistan.

No but is on the chopping block. The air farce never liked a plane that is so simple and so slow. So as soon as the Iraq mess is over with it will go into mothballs and be replaced by the F-15E or F-35. It sucks but that is the plan.

I'm sure there are quite afew outside the US that would like to see the A-10 retired, but sorry to them all. Were gonna keep on kicking *** and taking names with that awesome plane. It did not get the nickname of "Warthog" for nothing.

It's ugly and fugly and mean as hell, and will kick major *** when needed!!!

No sir! God, I would miss it if it was. I love that airplane, but I love all airplanes! We have them here at our base, Eglin AFB. There is nothing cooler than seeing a Warthog flying over the hosue :0)
