Provigil is a Schedule IV controlled substance, and is available by prescription only. It is used to treat narcolepsy, and is sometimes used off-lable for ADHD. If you suffer from one of those conditions, you should have no trouble obtaining a prescription from your doctor. If you do not have one of those conditions and want the drug simply to stay awake longer or be more alert, or for recreational use, then you're not going to get it legally.

If you have a good reason you can get it. Someone I know was able to get it because he suffered from sleep apnea and other breathing problems related to his asthma/allergies. He was never able to get a proper nights sleep and that left him dead tired all the time and he was constantly needing to take naps all throughout the day. He was unable to wake up and stay up and it took him hours to get out of bed because he never felt rested. He had the problem for over 25 years. He asked his doctor if he could get a prescription for provigil and the doctor wrote him one. He's been taking it for about 5 years and his life has improved greatly and he hasn't had any negative side effects (yet...)
