If your intestines come out and become strangulated (twisted so as to block the intestine), you can die if you don't get medical attention soon enough.
Hernia repairs by surgery have become very effective in recent years. I had 1 for an umbilical hernia. I went home the same day. You have lifting restrictions for awhile but the surgery is worth it.
As the hernia became worse I had a harder and harder time pushing my intestine back in and of course, worried about it all the time. After I recovered from the surgery I have not worried about it and I have had no trouble for the past 10 years.

Their are so many type of hernia. It can never shorten your life. But you should get yourself operated as soon as possible. The reason for hast is because if their is a serious strangulation of intestine can lead to necrosis of intestine leading to may be death.

initially, hernia is not threathening life. it just makes you uncomfortable. but because it's not something normal inside your body, it can be dangerous someday.
