A GS job is just a civilian job. You are paid based on the GS grade. You time in Active Duty serve has no bearing on your pay. You service may help you get the job, but you won't paid more becasue of it. You can contact The CPO (Civilian Personnel Office) on any base and they can give you a rough idea of what a GS-11 makes. But just for comparison's sake, my father is a GS-16. He makes roughly $175,000 plus a year (just from his job, not including retirement pay). He is a retired CMSgt with 30 years Active Duty. He also went in as a civilian into the field he worked as Active Duty.

I'm a GS 11 for the Army National Guard. I work in the Mobilization Office.

I'm a Military Technician. I wear the uniform and do everything the rest of the soldiers do, I just get shorter lunch periods and take PT tests once a year. I also only get 2 days of vacation a month instead of Active Duty or AGR who get three days vacation each month.

GS11 makes between $55,000-$65,000 a year based on your step increases.

In the Army, you can "buy" your military time to increase your time in grade. It makes you more money and gives you time toward your retirement.

No such thing.

GS-11 is a civilian pay grade for a federal worker. Some members of the Air Force Reserve have civilian jobs on base that relate to their Air Force Reserve jobs. Off duty they collect their wages on the GS scale and on duty they collect at the active duty pay scale.

A GS is NOT in the Air Force.

GS stands for "Government Service". These are civilians who work for the Air Force (or Department of Defense). They work with the military, they often work on base, sometimes they get sent overseas, but they are NOT in the service, they do not answer to military courts or justice, do not wear the uniform, don't have to take P.T. tests, and they can not be given orders (but they can be fired).
