(From those who remember me asking about if my Chiuahua Mix was able to give birth to my Dachsund mix's puppies..They came out fine! 4 Boys! The last one, a Runt, Came out with the Dachsund markings..with the brown and Black..Thanks for the help!)

My Question is this..

My Four 3 Week old puppies are teething and tend to bite on our fingers..Their teeth are super sharp..what can I buy them to chew on? They are really small pups, Nearly fitting into the palm of your hand..slightly bigger. Thanks!

You can go to any pet supply store like Petco or Petsmart and find some chewies that are made for smaller dogs. Keep in mind that most dogs love to chew on things but if they are allowed to actually eat the chewies, they sometimes throw up. Let them chew, then take them away and give them new ones.

It's funny, but those little needle teeth were such a pain (literally) when my dogs were pups, but now when I meet a new puppy that nips at my fingers I think it's kind of cute.

Anyway, do be careful that the puppies don't swallow any chunks of the chews. But more importantly, teach them early that biting on hands is not allowed. If you notice, mom is probably already letting them know when their biting during feeding with a growl or a quick nip.

They're probably too small now, but by about 8-10 weeks you should discourage their finger-biting. What I did with my terriers was instantly make a fist when they started biting. This makes your hand too big to fit into their small mouth. Then I shouted 'No' or made an angry sounding noise to get their attention. It sounds silly, but they learned pretty quickly the difference between "good" and "bad" chewing.

For teething pain, by the way. I took clean washrags, knotted them up, soaked them in water and wrung them out, then tossed them into the freezer When it looked like the puppies were chewing because of discomfort, I'd take one out of the freezer and let them gnaw on it for a while. They seemed to like it. My dogs were aggressive chewers, though, so I always held the rag while they chewed on it to make sure they wouldn't shred or swallow it.

Get a towel & roll it up & soak it in water. Put it in the freezer & let it freeze (abt 1-2 hrs). After its frozen give it 2 the pups then just watch 2 make sure they don't try 2 eat the towels! Also get a theething ring ( u know 4 human babies) & give them that as well!!They should b ok. When they get 2 b abt 8 weeks u can give them small rope toys & other small chew toys!!

I've done this w/ my 6 mo old pup (was 8 wks when found her on the street) I gave her both. My brother even said this was ok.

At three weeks you can't give them ice as it would chill their body's too much. I'd get some doggy ropes that are super small and let them chew on that. From 6-8 weeks they will be learning their bite inhibition and as long as you keep them together, they will learn from each other how not to bite so hard. This is why a puppy should never go home before 8 weeks old.

You can give them the super small rawhide bones......you can get them at walmart or any other super center or your vet can provide you with something appropriate......dont do the pig ears though cause I have heard that pork isnt good for dogs.
