I read online You can give your Female a Tum for more calcium After giving birth. But then I found some other sites that say no? Which one is true and If I have already given her a Tum wat should I do? I cant contact my Vet at this time of night and he is not in tomorrow so I am searching for other ways untill he gets in.

Tums as you know is an antacid. Calcium needs vitamin D to be absorbed. Natural sources of calcium may be helpful. One Tums won't hurt a dog. Calcium carbonate is better absorbed than other forms. I think some sources are against Tums because its make up was different in the past. Calcium carbonate wasn't the main ingredient back in the day.It is now. Since we want to avoid calcium crash during whelping which causes tremors, weakness and stiffness, possible cardiac rhythm problems, Tums once a day,one can of evaporated milk mixed into her high protein dog food, eggs mixed with ground egg shell should prevent this occurrence.Beef liver and other meats can also be added. Should the female become deficient, it is my understanding that slow IV calcium and glucose will need to be administered by a vet. Bummer. Things should go very well. Have a dog gone great day.

i've never heard of that. what would do is just call the vet's office and ask if its ok. since u have had two different answers, and on here u will get A LOT of differents answers, then i suggest u just wait until the vet's office opens. ur dog will be fine in a couple of days. what u could also do is contact a emergency office, they will tell u too, and u will be 100 percent sure. Hope this helped. God Bless♥

if you think your dog is in an emergency state where giving her a tum cannot wait until you talk to your vet tomorrow about it, call the er vet. if she is not healthy and you think it's from calcuim loss, then you need to contact an er vet asap. if she's doing fine, wait till morning. your vet is going to have the best advice. if your vet isn't in tomorrow call another vet. if you have already given it without asking the vet, you can do nothing. you gave it, just watch her. and why bother to ask if you've already given it?

And why do you think she needs Tums? Calcium? She'll be ok until you can contact your vet in the morning.

Rolaids are not safe for dogs at all. Stick to Tums. Rolaids also contain magnesium hydroxide.

call an emergency clinic first, they can help you over the phone on if you should wait for your vet to tell you or go ahead and do it now and give you the dose
