It's like an high sugar type thing that can be given if, say--a small dog went into shock from hypoglycemia or something like that. And it works very well for that. It's a very good thing to keep on hand (you can refrigerate it and it keeps for a time). Should you ever need a high energy, high sugar substance that is easily absorbed then it's the first choice.
Edit:
OK

What I said before applies to the tube product. Never seen the other stuff although it looks interesting.

I use Nutri-cal when I have a bit ch whelping or am working my dogs very hard at a field trial. It is also good for very sick dogs. It is not really meant, or needed, for everyday use.
I would stop getting your Vets advice about nutrition, as most know little about it. Their nutritional 'training' consists of a seminar given by Hills Science Diet.
Just feed a better food, Pedigree is such a terrible food. Read up on nutrition, there are some good online articles, and study labels. Royal Canin Sensible Choice and Dick Van Pattens Natural Balance are both pretty good foods (SC is cheaper, but NB is better) and not overly expensive.

We rescue greyhounds and nutrical is greyt for helping put weight in an emaciated dog, or getting the extra nutrients they need from having had a bad diet. May I also suggest changing foods. Pedigree is very byproduct based. Try Solid Gold, Eagle Pack or if price is a problem Purina One. Don't let anyone talk you into Iams or Eukanuba, they went commercial and byproduct based

I keep some of it on hand and have used it some. If your dog is in good health, I see no reason why it would need Nutri Cal.

if they are young, sick or underweight, absolutely! I rescue and hand raise puppies all the time. I couldn't save them w/o the nutri cal. Oh and you could get it at a feed store for 5 or 6 dollars, and you don't use much at a time.

yes it does work my ex mother in law raises yorkies and she swears by the stuff . I think maybe you should have a tube on hand just in case . also try feeding a better food such as royal canin or natural balance . They are not overly exspensive either . You can purchase all of this at petsmart. good luck to you.

It saved the life of one of my chihuahuas a few years back, so yes, it is wonderful. My house always has it, since I raise chihuahuas and you never know when an emergency will arise with low blood sugar. If you have a larger dog, you probably wouldn't need it tho.

it is great if you are talking about the tube kind it has saved several of our dogs, petsmart carries it for a reasonable price it doesn't take much if you are given it to the animal daily for just an extra supplement
