Hi Lezlie...some of the rare domestic cat breeds currently are the Havana Brown, Don Sphynx, Nebelung and a few others. Exotic outcrosses such as Chausie, Savannah and Serengeti are not as common because the breed is still relevantly new.

Here's a list of breed of cats you can search through to learn who are the rarest of breeds: http://www.breedlist.com/breed.html

Siamese and Persians are hardly considered "rare breeds" of cats. They are probably two of the most common and well known breeds of cats actually. Go to www.cfainc.org. This the premier registry of pedigreed cats in America. It has a list of all the breeds with some descriptions. These are the recognized breeds. There is another organizaiton called TICA that is also a registry of pedigreed cats, but they recognize several newer breeds that have not been given recognition by CFA. CFA is the more prestigious and distinctive organization. The rarest breed to my knowledge is the Siberian, a beautiful long haired cat from Russia. They are a natural breed (as opposed to a "created" or invented breed like the Ocicat), but there aren't too many breeders of them so they are quite expensive and rare. Hope this helps.
