A backslider is a person who has been saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, and has became a Christian. But some time or other during their Christian life, they have stopped living their life in a way which is pleasing unto the Lord. It is a person who has turned back in to sin, and has started living their life once again, in a way which is pleasing to the devil. Usually, they have stopped reading their Bible, and stopped going to Church, and saying their prayers as they should. This does not mean that they are no longer a Christian. For once a person is saved, they are saved forevermore. A backslider usually never has peace of mind; for the Holy Spirit is always trying to convict their heart of the sin which they are committing; trying to get them to realize that they need to turn their heart back over to the Lord God.

A backslider is one who has given up a worldly way or a sin, to embrace a religion,or belief system. Then falls back (slides back) into old ways or habits that separates them from what they had previously chosen to believe. One who lacks commitment to a cause, that once they held in regard.

Someone who stops practicing all the traditions of a church and is slowly sliding down into a more "worldly" lifestyle. It's certainly not a compliment.

Put simply, it's one who knows the way in Christ, has walked in him before, but now has reverted to sin or wrongdoing.
