6 months to a year, i dont know where people are getting 2 years from but its false. There are alot of battalions that are on a rotation. So you usually get 6 -12 month deployement then
1 to 1 1/2 year back in the states, that is if they dont volunteer to go back with another unit.

I'm sorry to say there is no really answer at this point. The deployment ususally arrange from 6 months to an year then the units are rotate ant then can be sent back. Under today circumstance I;m afraid that is just not the case. I would remind any young men or women consider military service to keep that in mind when considering the military. I hope however your concerned about stays safe

To the poster above me; the Marines are a much smaller stress than the military. the military has the biggest military workers. As for the question;their rotations are extra or a lot less scheduled around the army's rotations because they could't bypass over their experience on the boats to and from the conflict. as a lot because the over bloated Marine ego might want to have human beings trust; the final public of the artwork being executed over there is not any longer being executed by technique of the Marines; yet by technique of the military because the military is supplied and experienced for longer continues to be and is equipped to cope with longer deployments.

Most of the Marines are deployed to Iraq for 6 months. Up to 9 months with an extension.

most privates serve for 3-5 months at a time, and often get 2 week break periods... i know of a bunch who do. Naval officers get the most time off. Those who stay for 2 years are the ones either on secret operations or police training -- sometimes those placed in dangerous, high-volume attacks... but most iraqi's are more focused on killing each other.

if i'm not mistaken it is one calendar year. don't believe some of the foolish and stupid answers like bush is trying to extend it to two years. that would be a military fiasco and very bad for troop moral. i would bet large sums of money that bush will not do that. either way, good luck if you or any of your friends are heading to iraq and thank you for your service.
