Plan A Carry a big box (big enough to play inside) and crayons. Markers only if you either find ones that are truly washable, or you're feeling really lucky. Cut out (you, not them) a door and a window. Give them a few ideas for decorating: suggest flowers near the bottom, tell them to dram a window frame, curtains, etc. This project kept my boys busy for the better part of two days, but you should think in advance how many boxes to get- if the kids are going to fight over them, etc. You can ask for the box at a grocery store- if you can't get one there, go to a gas station/convenience store- they are likely to have them, but flattened, so you may have to buy packing tape to close one end up. Or leave both ends open and call it a tunnel.
Plan B: If they can read, let them quiz you- they can read out the question at the end of the chapter, and you answer it. Even though they don't know if you're right, they'll enjoy being the teacher.
Plan C: Bring pieces of cardboard, glue, pencils, and yarn scraps. They draw on the cardboard, then use glue to trace the picture, and place yarn on the glue line. After the lines are all done, additional glue and yarn is used to fill in the spaces- they cover the entire piece of cardboard. This takes a long long time. We did it in my 8th grade art class and it took a week of classes to finish.
If all else fails, pick a few quiet toys from their toybox.

A.Bring coloring books and crayons B.rent a movie they have not seen yet (get an idea from their parents) C. Have quiet time with LOTS of books-let them each pick out alot of books let them read alone or they can take turns playing "school" and read them to each other like a "class". These are some of the things I have my kids do when I need to study. Also, since Valentines Day is coming you could bring construction paper, glue, markers, etc. for making Valentines for friends and family. Good Luck! PS DON"T GIVE THEM CANDY OR THEY WILL ACT LIKE WILD KIDS

How old are these kids? Do the parents know you don't intend to be interacting with these kids and actually taking care of them?
Your best bet, to ethically and honestly earn your money and provide decent care to the children is to get them so physically active during the day that they fall asleep early. Then, you study.
Tv is very stimulating, so I don't think it's a good way to get kids to settle down, although it can be a way to keep them quiet for a while.

You tell them calmly that there has to be some quiet time, and, you ask them (if they're old enough) if they'd like to watch a movie. If that won't work you separate them. Ask each one if there's something he/she can find to do to keep busy for a while, and if they can't think of something go with them and go through their toys/activities and suggest something.
An alternative (if their ages and personalities are right) is to see if they'll all sit down and play board game.

Ask the parents! They know their kids best! I am a parent and I wouldcertainly appreciate my babysitter asking me this question. I would hate to see if all of your plans fail! If you need to study, tell the parents and they will help you.

-lol- good luck.
;)
it all depends on the age group.
your best option is to study while they are sleeping. I am a student and a mother....that is the only way I get anything done.
