The purpose of meaning is to make the day, the year, or your life seem like it has a direction. It is the imposition of value on things that give you a sense of connection to your universe and your loved ones.
Without meaning, you wander aimlessly. When you create or adopt a meaning for your life, you get to ignore that which falls outside your meaning, and focus on the things that structure and guide your existence.
