I was wondering if a couple, both with down syndrome, would be able to have a child that does not have the syndrome?

First of all, Pinwheelbandit couldn't be more wrong. I'd sure like to know where he gets his information. People with Down syndrome frequently live well into their 50 and 60s and yes, some couples do get married!

For the most part, males with Down syndrome often tend to be sterile, although, not in every case. Females with Down syndrome can be capable of becoming pregnant.

Sorry, I know that doesn't really answer your question about the genetics aspect, but I had to clear up some misinformation!

There is a higher likelihood that the child would also have Down's Syndrome, but it is definitely not a certainty.

There are no parents with down syndrome. Since this is a condition of the chromosomes, individuals with DS don't usually live to the age where they would get married and they are sterile.

it is all in the genes....if two chromosomes from the parents come together just right and split at 21, they could very well have progeny that is also trisomy 21.
