Definition from encarta: http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_/religion.html

1. beliefs and worship: people's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life

2. system: an institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine

3. personal beliefs or values: a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by

4. obsession: an object, practice, cause, or activity that somebody is completely devoted to or obsessed by.

One and two could be aplied to Christianity, three and four could be aplied to Atheism as well. So, by definition both can be considered a religion.

This is the logical anwer. Not all Christians, nor are they the only people who say that. People who believe in God or the Divine consider themselves to have religon. But according to the definition above, we can see that both can be considered a religion.

Atheism could be I suppose... maybe... eh... doubtful
Christianity is not a religion, it is a collective of similar religions that all share a couple of the same views. Catholocism is a religion. Protestant is a religion. Christianity is more of a way of thinking... or better a union between the other religions.

and I disagree with answerer 4... Atheism is simply a belief a person has. Notice they don't got church... because they do not believe in God. Similar to an Agnostic... except an Agnostic believes in god (or a higher power) but not in religion.

Evolutionism as faith it is a classic case of projection through many creationists. for sure, creationism is organic faith. i do not imagine many creationists would deny that or maybe want to disclaim it, for that count number. technological expertise, although, isn't a faith. that is only a thanks to income about the international round us - through utilising the medical technique. it is the concept we may be able to a. note and describe parts of the international round us, b. style hypotheses that specify those observations, c. make predictions depending upon those hypotheses, and d. layout checks (experiments) that validate or disprove those predictions. there is no longer something non secular about the medical technique - except the "conception" that you'll learn something sensible utilising the tactic; a conception that has been proven 1000's of cases to the great income of humanity over the purely appropriate various hundred years.

Atheism is a religion because it take a belief in something that does not exits to make it not be. And christianity is base on facts of things that took place in time in co-existance to faith making it a belief on truth of facts.

Huh.

I agree with you, but what Christians say that!

Anything that HAS RULES, FOLLOWS SOMETHING OR SOMEONE, has RESTRICTIONS, has a SUPERIOR and INFERIOR that you LOOK UP TO, qualifies as a religion.

For Atheism NOT to be a religion, you can't even follow the rules of society, for they are man made "things" that resemble Godliness.

If you kiss someone's feet, you are religious

IF an ATHEIST pulls out thier check book and pays a FINE, they are admitting there is a GOD (a judge) and there is SIN (and THEY did that sin) and they are looking for REPETANCE (pennance) to avoid going to HELL (jail).

Ha, I think I've heard this before...Atheism requires "faith" in the fact that there is no God ((This is simply not true, unless it takes faith to believe that Oopma Loompas aren't running a chocolate factory in London))...and Christianity is a relationship with God ((They began saying this when Christianity began to be negatively equated with strict rules, racism, sexism, and murderous evangelizing.))
The argument is so invalid, it's nearly impossible to counter...
I believe you are correct in your assessment "wtf!?"

I could see someone trying to state that, but you're missing a piece:

"Atheism is a religion but Christianity isn't. It's the Truth"

Referring to Jesus as being that truth.
