I've read a fair number of questions here asking, "why can't nuns be married"? To me, this is like asking, "why can't circles be square?", but obviously others don't see it that way. Could those who wish to know "why can't nuns be married?" please share their vision of a "married nun"? What would this woman do, where would she live, what would make her different from other married women, etc. -- in short, what is it that would make a married woman a nun?

Oh this I have got to see. After reading that half the people hear are drunk when they come on, that may explain a lot.
PS. No, Episcopalian nuns do not marry. A person male or female in the RC, Orthodox or Episcopal church can be an associate member of a Religious community. But that is not the same as being a monk or nun. Associates are called Sister or Brother, and they can marry and have families and live in the world. Monks and nun of any kind do not marry. They many have been married at one time and widowed and then became monks or nuns. In the Episcopal church a divorced woman can become a nun. I hope this settles this once and for all, but I am a dreamer. And sober.

I can't say from a religious prespective, because I am not catholic, but I can tell you a story about that, which does not answer the question, but does answer the question of why a nun might want to be married.
My Grandmother was a nun, though she had not yet taken her final vows. She taught in a school and decided that she loved children so much that she didn't want to never have them. So she left the convent, got married and had 17 children of which my father was the middle child. So that was her reason.
Just a fun story.

I came across some married women became a nun eventually, however nothing can make a married woman a nun if they don't wish to be a nun. For people who wish to be celibacy don't married.
As for the religion I familiar with, for nuns one of their vow is practicing celibacy, because they wish to best utilise their time to have their spiritual development, to practice love-kindness and compassion, and others spiritual means to work for the benefit of all beings, instead wasting times to have sex and others lust. They don't have their own property or home in most cases, they stay either at the center or touring around if they are a touring teacher. They can't have insurance, own a car, or have a night out with their friends, etc, due to their vows and committments.
Some people may find them 'boring', but as for me, I have the GREATEST respect to them, because of their selfless thoughs to work spiritually toward for all beings.

Nuns can't get married, right? At least not Roman Catholic ones...
I'm married and wouldn't be too great a nun. Of course, black is my best color though...
