Some people like to have tic tacs for those awkward moments, maybe try that, smells good and also tastes "cool"

When was the last time you had your teeth cleaned by a Dental Hygienist? This needs to be done a couple of times a year on most young people. You need to be sure that when you brush your teeth you brush effectively. It should take at least 2 minutes, visit this website and review proper brushing and flossing techniques:
http://english.jbutler.com/consumer_education.asp .
The most important thing to remember when brushing your teeth is that if you don't feel the toothbrush tickling on your gums you haven't covered the entire side of the tooth and you will have left plaque behind so go back and do it again! Be sure that you brush all the surfaces of your teeth - tongue side, cheek side and biting side. You need to floss every 24-48 hours in order to clean the surfaces that the toothbrush can't reach and you need to brush your tongue also. Mouthwash will probably not do much to help avoid bad breath other than mask the odour for a short time.

Bad breath can also be caused by diet - avoid highly spiced foods, garlic, onions etc. and if you have regular indigestion or acid reflux visit your medical doctor.

In the last resort or as a temporary measure stand a little further away from the person you are talking to so that you aren't quite so "in their face" when you are talking to them and they probably won't notice that you have a problem!

A practical answer is: use a few drops of peppermint oil, or chew on a nutmeg nut, available in most health food store. I would want to know what the cause is…for example do you have gum disease or a dormant infection. Maybe you have yeast infection or you do not drink enough water….There are many causes for bad breath. Rule out if you have a dental or digestive problem.

Floss your teeth regularly. When you get the food out from between your teeth and it's on the floss, you will smell the odor that is causing your bad breath.

Brush your tongue when you brush your teeth. A tounge scraper is supposed to be even better. Floss between your teeth every day. Your breath will be great.

Do you floss first then brush your teeth and tongue with a breath freshening paste and rinse well?
Do you gargle with a solution such as Crest mouthwash? (for gingivitis)

If you have tried this, it may be a digestive problem that should be seen by a doctor.

At the 2 hour point eat a snack. One reason people get horrible breath is that they are hungry.

gum DOES make breath smell worse because once the flavor runs out, you just trapped your spit in the gum and you keep chewing it.

try mouth wash in the morning.

or buy mints.

check to see if you have a sinus infection. That can do it. Also if you have any stoamach issues, that too can cause breath issues.
