Let's say in column A i have a letter assigned (a-z), in column B I have a number assigned (1-5). I want to combine the two into column c.
For example cell A1=z, cell B1=4, I want cell C1 to read "z4"

=A1&B1

the '&' operator allows you to add together various cell entries, or even insert letters or words into a new string by using quotes.

for example;
=A1&"/"&B1

would show:
z/4

If cell A1 = z, and B1 = 4, the formula
you need for cell C1 is

=A1&B1

This will group cells A1 and B1 together
in C1 with no spaces between.
