Technically your cat would be masochistic, you'd be the sadistic one (joking!)
Cats purr for lots of reasons, when they're hurt, when they're happy, when they're frightened, etc. My cat purrs when he's hungry, when he wants attention, when the dog is using him as a pillow (which he doesn't like), and when I scratch him under his chin (which he likes a lot).
Hope this helps
(and stop pinching your kitty)

I know that some animals will yawn as a sign of submission.
Also, female cats will purr as they are giving birth, so that would indicate that purring isn't always because cats are happy.

Please if you are only going to inflict pain on ou poor cat, give her to someone who will honestly love and appreciate her. Of course she feels pain. She breaths and bleeds. Cats have a tendency of not showing pain. It all has to do with survival of the fittest and all that in the wild. They will purr when in pain, when happy or scared. It is very important to learn the traits of your cat. This way you will know when she is not feeling well, when she is hungry, feels like playing, wants to sleep, wants affection or just needs to be left alone. I implore you to respect your cat as you wish to be respected by others. Remember she relies on you for her very livelihood. Please be kind and loving to her.

Please don't pinch or torment your cat in any way. Cats (as well as all animals) are living, breathing creatures which do feel pain. Cats have been known to not show any sign of pain when they are hurt.
Have a lovely rest of the evening.

Hi there...yes, cats do have pain receptors throughout their bodies. When cats purr it isn't only in contentment, but they will also purr when they are in pain or dying as well. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&A=1495&S=2
