i have been doing judo/aikido for 4 months now, and my sensai dosent know my name, he dosent wear a gi, he watches t.v. during class, the only reason i dont quit is because the people there are nice and i have began to make freinds with them, and i like judo, should i set all of that aside and just quit any way.

depends what you want.
Personally, I would not only quit, but demand my money back based on representations he may have made about the classes.
Did he in fact say that students would be teaching or he would be?
even still you would likely win any case after presenting that image. Also the threat of having that revealed or dealt with will ruin the school's reputation- which personally I think it should be ruined.
who cares how good your sensei is if he isn't passing on the knowledge to you. While it is one thing to have the basics taught by senior students, to have such a callous and obviously insulting attitude from your teacher is ridiculous. You could be the product of a mcdojo, I would check into that one further.

I'm not entirely sure..........
My master you could say does the same thing. He used to have just 1 school, and as time went on he opened up 3 others. His top students, all 3rd degrees, are our instructors. Then once a week he teaches a black belt class. He'll come to the school i train at and teach sometimes. Other times he'll walk in with street clothes just, stick aroudn to talk to an instructor, but is prety much only there to pick up paper work inbetween leaving work and going home.
THis though was understood while signing up. Its this man's school, but he wont' be teaching at it every class.
So it depends what the situation is.
If thats just his main office and he has other schools and is just trying to get some paper work done after work, yeah that makes sense. I think no problem.
If its his only school or he is suppose to be teaching the class and is just taking your money while someone ..possibly non qualified is teaching, then go to your next class, say your good byes....and don't go back.
Also, i don't know your class set up....maybe there is another more advanced one after yours and thats what he teaches...he lets his higher leveled students teacher the lower ranks.
Again with my classes. There are two instructors on mondays. The one has work and shows up towards the end of the lower ranking class. He usually just sits there and does his thing. THen he'll teach the more advanced class while the lower rank instructor might leave half way through.
ANd yeah, i've met people in class and stayed friends with them outside of it after they quit or i took my hiatus for school.

Curtis,
the spelling is Sensei, just so you know.
Now, if this supposed "sensei" is watching the hellavision during the time he's supposed to be teaching, I've lost all respect for him.
About the gi, who cares. The tv watching is really the issue there.
If I were you bro', I'd go find another class with a serious sense of urgency.

If your sensei is not wearing a gi and watches tv during class, who is teaching you? This sounds like absolutely no judo dojo i have ever heard of, in fact the man isn't even a sensei, i am disgusted.
Yes quit, you can still make friends with the people, but i don't understand what is going on here.

Sounds like your sensei needs a swift kick to the pills. That might get his attention. Do you think anyone wants a kick to the head when I'm wearing these badboys? Forget about it!

Ok first of all it's sensei. Any martial art is about respect. If you don't respect the teacher or vice versa you won't learn to your full potential.

Respect between student & instructor is vital. Since you can't respect your instructor, you should look for a new school.
