is it possible for my 2006 tax return to be garnished if my wages are already being garnished for past student loans?

Yes, they can garnish your taxes also. They are able to take up to 15% of your wages. I would recommend filing for an economic hardship deferment. Although; if your loans are in default (which I am going to assume they are since they are/were garnishing our wages), you will need to either get them out of default by consolidating them or unfortunately work out some sort of payment plan with the student loan company to get them to report to NSLDS that you are out of default.

Yes, it's possible.. call this number (it's the Treasury Offset Information number = IRS). It is not 100% guaranteed, but it will tell you if they plan on garnishing.
