Wrong category but a valid question. In a nutshell, political BS. The nasty party games our government has degenerated too.

The US is a young nation and its made many mistakes and countless errors. The news about Katrina shouldn't shock anyone there is no great shortage of the same people that the government helps in other countries in our own country.People choose to ignore it but it exist. There are people here that don't know they can come forward to get help or the are embarrassed to be helped or too proud and think they can do it on their own.You would be amazed at the number of chidren here in the US that go to bed hungry every night and has a no idea what the future will bring.I watch the commercial a lot about the Christian Children's Fund and the little precious children they talk about in other countries and wonder why the efforts to save our own children first is not a priority .. Its sad but its all around you .Open your eyes and then your heart and you don't have to look very far for someone to help..As for the government here .I think they try but they are limited..some will never come forward to ask for help..and the government isn't going to go looking for them so its kind of a bad situation both ways ..

Katrina was not unpredicted. I lived there for many years, and everybody knew that it could happen. New Orleans was not hit by a natural disaster but a human one. It survived the hurricane until the levees broke the following day.
You are right. The money is being spent in the wrong place.

We did help our own, it was just slow in coming, as for the houses that are not rebuilt most were very poor people and if they were not insured it will not be rebuilt, and the insurance companies are fighting claims that people are submitting, they even refused to rebuild a Congressman's house. New Orleans will be rebuilt but it well take time. It was the city of the poor. Plus they had a stupid mayor, that they reelected, who didn't care about his own people, he left thousands stranded, when he refused to use buses to get them out. And the Governor was slow in requesting enough help from the federal government.

Sad but true. Too many crooks got hold of the money first. In other words, crooks got the gold mine, Katrina people got the shaft.

There are much, much more important matters at hand, and...well...it's hard for me to show pity when the survivors wait around waiting for us to wait on them hand and foot.
