Just because everyone believes something doesn't mean they're right.
Everyone used to believe that the earth was flat.

I am an atheist because I believe in the psychological necessity of God. As a child you look to your parents to establish your place in the world. When you get older, you need God to establish your place in the universe. God is a mental crutch for those who are unable to accept the random nature of life. The question becomes, how is a book that has been rewritten at least three times still considered factually true? The old testament was compiled by Ezra the Scribe in 800 BC by combining 12 versions of oral traditions. The Catholic Church decided what books could be canonized to form the Bible multiple times. (Including the canonization of the Apocrypha at the Council of Trent) King James rewrote to whole of the Bible to support the Church of England. Which version should we hold to be true and valid?

Religion is a virus of the mind. Take some time to study neuroscience and think about the consequences of raising all children to believe in "god" so that they are completely indoctrinated before their brains have reached a level of maturation that critical thought becomes possible. Then consider the consequences of having such people gather in communities and reinforce each other's beliefs.

Actually that number may be as high as 15%. Most people when asked will not identify themselves as an atheist because of the stigma attached to that label. Alot of people are agnostic and also do not want to have an atheist label. There may be more of us than you know. Are you afraid yet?

Back in the 70's over 90% of the population was against interracial marriages. How did that turn out? (Just in case you can't figure it out) It means that the people in this country aren't always right.
I'm an atheist because I don't need a security blanket. I grew out of fairy tales many years ago.

I was born waving a black flag with red letters on it that said 'Non Conformist'... Believing whatever the heck you want to believe while the rest of the world shakes their heads is what makes life so much fun!

Is that supposed to prove something. 70% of Swedes do not believe in god and I know who seem to have things sorted out better.
The rest of the world doesn't think much of America by the way, are they right?
