This means you ate or drank something with sugar in it before you went to bed, assuming there is nothing medically wrong with you or you are not on any medications. Sugar dehydrates you. Stop eating sweets by dinner time and your mouth will feel much better in the morning.

There are several products on the market that are geared for dry mouth. The first thing I would do is cut out any mouthrinses that contain alcohol (ie Listerine). There is a rinse called Biotene that is sold in most drugstores/shopping markets. It costs about 5$ for regular sized bottle, not like some of the larger bottles we see. Use this rinse twice a day and it should be the last thing you do at night before bed. Give it some time to do its magic. After a week if you still notice the dry mouth, try using the Biotene toothpaste in place of your regualr. this toothpaste tastes fine and does all the good things that regular toothpaste does for you and also helps w/dry mouth. Once you start using this, use it regularly. one of the mistakes most people make is that the dry mouth starts to get better and they stop using the product. You can use this in place of regular toothpaste/.rinse. If you are taking a lot of medications this can influence how dry your mouth gets by not allowing your salivary glands to work properly.
After using this rinse for about 3-4 week and you still aren't seeing results then I would consult your physician. There are also many medical reasons for dry mouth. *ie diabetes, Schroegrens, amongst others.

DO
drink water; lots of it
brush/floss daily
scrape your tongue

DO NOT
reach for candies that are loaded w/sugar. if you find yourself doing this during the day, make the sugar free choice, or look for something w/xylitol (google this and you will get a ton of info

you definately don't want to make your situation worse by allowing the bacteria in your mouth to feast on sugars and produce the acids that cause decay.

I do not know how mild/severe your dry mouth is, however if you do not seem to alleviate it, I would definately consult my physician and let them know all the products you have tried and steps you have taken that have not given results.

Google : www.Biotene.com, and then a seperate search for dry mouth, xylitol. you will find there is a lot of info out there.

Good Luck

The flow of saliva is naturally reduced at night. That is why people have morning breath when they wake up. That's why it is very important to clean your teeth before you go to bed. If you don't, the bacteria in your mouth will flourish (have a party) in the dry enviroment at night while you are sleeping.

Some people have xerostomia (dry mouth) that is caused by other factors.
Reduced saliva flow that results in a dry mouth is a common problem among older adults. It is caused by certain medical disorders and is often a side effect of medications such as antihistamines, decongestants, pain killers and diuretics.

Some of the common problems associated with dry mouth include a constant sore throat, burning sensation, problems speaking, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness or dry nasal passages. Left untreated, dry mouth can damage your teeth. Without adequate saliva to lubricate your mouth, wash away food, and neutralize the acids produced by plaque, extensive decay can occur.

Your dentist can recommend various methods to restore moisture. Sugar-free candy or gum stimulates saliva flow, and moisture can be replaced by using artificial saliva and oral rinses.

Drinking water & chewing sugarless gum helps. If you're taking psych meds, they can cause dry mouth.

Keep some pieces of hard candy with you. When you feel the need just take one. No one should be the wiser.
