if the computer doesnt open how can i format it? i agree with crazycivi that its a virus. but always a but. if it dont open how can you format it and reinstall xp it wont read the disk ive tried this already. ive also changed the hard drive and have the same error message it was an old hard drive that i replaced with a bigger one. it should of had the system on it as it worked when i replaced it whats the deal should i just scrap it and buy a new system

you have to go into the bios and set it to boot off cd-rom and then it will boot off your xp disc. to enter bios restart your pc and press del before windows opens, try pressing it repeatede;y when you start it up until it goes into bios and then look for boot sequence and set first boot device to cd-rom

insert your Windows XP install cd, and reboot. The pc should boot from the CD if your bios is set to boot from CD first. If not, you'll need to look for documentation on how to config your BIOS. (most pc's will go to the BIOS setup mode if you hit delete repeatedly while booting. When you get the pc to boot from the cdm, follow the prompts to delete your partition and reformat the hard drive as a NTFS drive. That's it in a nutshell....good luck!
