I would have to say that I found it interesting that in all of the answers so far, not one has posted what the authority on the subject (The Bible) actually states. Word for word. So, rather than give you my opinion - I will give you three scriptures and a quote.
SCRIPTURE ONE:
Jesus states the identifying mark of true Christians:
John 13:34,35:
34: A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35: By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have
love one to another.
SCRIPTURE TWO:
Jesus' command concerning those that are not Christians and who display violence toward you:
Matthew 5:34,35:
43: Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy
neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44: But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45: That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
SCRIPTURE THREE:
Jesus' reaction when one of his apostles came to his defense with physical violence:
Matthew 26:51,52:
51: And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.
52: Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
INTERESTING QUOTE:
A thought provoking quote by Reo M. Christenson, a professor of political science, in the publication "The Christian Century", on whether or not a genuine Christian could take part in war:
“Can anyone seriously conceive of Jesus hurling hand grenades at his enemies, using a machine gun, manipulating a flamethrower, dropping nuclear bombs or launching an ICBM which would kill or cripple thousands of mothers and children? The question is so absurd that it scarcely merits an answer. If Jesus could not do this and be true to his character, then how can we do it and be true to him?”
Interesting question.

Semper FI Marine and none of us want to have to take lives but this is what we have to deal with. Nobody who serves and may have been in this position should feel guilt. By taking there lives we are saving lives of are American service members. And the term Soldiers is the Army if you are a Marine ( Not saying you are not) then that is what we are!! This is the Title we have earned and will always have. Once a Marine always a Marine.

A soldier is a different story armed conflict have been waging sense the beginning of time "in the bible god helped the Israelite's while in battle and also at the battle of Jericho" War is an unfortunate afire defending ones people and home land is not a sin it's an honor and duty!
The lord will return to wage the final battle against the anti-Christ if the lord was against war why will or would he return to wage it?
I think the answers you are seeking are in the bible" gods love and forgiveness are boundless" god bless you!

You're not a Marine or your question wouldn't include the term "soldiers"... or you're an awfully new Marine.
The Bible says "An eye for an eye", and the Lord had Soldiers who did His will.
You are fighting to defend the defenseless. That is a righteous cause.

first of all, I, at this present time, do not believe in god. so I don't think that you will punished in hell or anything like that. second of all, if you are in Iraq, I have the greatest respect for you, I think that what you are doing there is what is right and just. third of all: KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THOSE FUKING TERRORISTS!!!!! I hate them with the intensity of a thousand suns. same goes for if you are in Afghanistan. they are the scum of the earth and if there is a god, he should reward you for killing them, if you kill any POW's, you will be taking them out of our misery. remember, they are killing your friends every day. it takes way too long to put them through a trial. you may be saying" but that would make me no better than them." Have you killed hundreds of people, do have the hate so intense that you are willing to die so you could kill Americans? if so, then I hate you. go kill yourself. if not then you are not as bad as them. I live by a code: "do what is right, if something is not right, then make it right. if there is tyranny in the world, if there is innocent people who cannot protect themselves, those who have the ability to take action, it is their responsibility, it is their duty, to rise up and take action." do what is right, these people have killed untold numbers of other people. they should not contaminate the gene pool any further. So no, you are not doing anything wrong, you are making things right!
SEMPER FI MARINE HOOHRAA!

There is a difference between killing and murder. The Bible says there is a time for war and a time for peace. The motivation is the issue and God is well prepared to sort out the difference.

in the 10 comandments written in hebrew then translated in english they got it wrong. its thou shall not MURDER. defending your self is not a sin.
plus being a soldier is a holy job, look at the crusades all 14(?) of them soldiers were sent to the middle east with the promise of attaing heaven. (i dont agree with that whole thing but its in the christan history) and i also want to point out that wars of religion have killed more people then you would care to think about.

That is what your chaplin is for. Your job, duty & survival depend
on what U were trained to do. In the face of battle, you must do
what-ever it takes, that is why its the toughest job U will ever
have in your life. Make it through & everything else in life will
seem like a piece of cake. Good - Luck Kick the enemies A@@ !

It's technically not murder, it's self defense. If you were getting shot at, and you shot back and killed the guy, that is self defense. But if you kill someone at random, then yes it is murder, which is wrong, as the bible has stated.
If you did commit "murder", you could always pray. God forgives all sins other then suicide.

First of all Marine. You must not blame yourself or feel you are committing sin for performing your duties.
You must obey your orders, but if you have an enemy who surrenders, remember that he stops being the enemy and becomes your POW, protected under the Geneva Conventiona and the UCMJ.
Keep your eyes open, your distance from POW's and your weapon by your side at all times.
