OK, I've heard that Catholicism is a branch of Christianity, and that it means something about "universal" So if it is a branch, why isn't it Christianity?

Catholicism came first. Protestantism is man-made. I mean.....churches named after human founders? LUTHERanism, CALVINism, WESLEYan????

The Catholic Church was not screwed up for the first 1500 years. That's blaphemy because it all but implies that the Holy Spirit was sound asleep for the first 1500 years!

You know that Protestantism -- while having some good qualities -- is an abreviated term for churches who are break-aways of breakaways of breakaways....For example....the Anglican (Church of England) Church broke from the Catholic Church. The Methodist Church (WESLEYan) broke from the Church of England; the Holiness Churches broke from the Methodist and the Holiness churches further sub-divided.....some along racial lines (real Christian, eh?) Now the kicker: there are more than 10,00 denominations out there -- more than half invented by humans -- with NO connection to the apostles, by the way -- since 1850. Obviously none of them completely agree with each other. In fact, many of them compete with each other.

The big joke about Protestantism is that "Protestantism multiplies.....by division!!!"

Yes, Catholicism is a major Christian religion, and so is Protestant belief, although the latter is fractured into many denominations. Some faiths are outside "mainstream" Christian beliefs, but are sometimes included under the Protestant umbrella.

Catholic with a small "c" means universal, as seen in the apostle's Creed, for instance. It may seem strange that some Protestant denominations keep this terminology at the risk of the perception that it agrees with Catholic tenets.

It may also be of interest to know that Protestants did not "break away" from the Catholic Church. It split into two camps, the original Protestants thinking only of reform within Catholicism, not separation from it. I'm not sure if the title was ever officially revised, but the official name for the Reformed churches (the oldest Protestant denomination with a continuing history) used to be called the "Catholic Church, Reformed according to the Word of God".

Catholicism is an imitation of chrisitanity or what they have decieved followers into believing is christianity. It is far from the true gospel. It has been mutilated, and twisted. The world has been slowly brainwashed into the idea that the catholic church is the "mother" church and that the pope, is a Christ on earth (vicar). So no, it is not the same if you really want a specific answer. Just because a christian religion says they believe in Christ, or believe in the trinity, and believe in baptism etc....doesn't make it christian. Only on the surface. But not even a good good duplicate of the real. People don't see it because they lack knowledge.

Catholicism is a branch of Christianity, but i ~being christian~ would say that there are differences between them...~in my opinion~ Catholics are a lil more stricter with their beliefs than Christians. I think that Catholics fast more often than Christians too, but let me know if I'm wrong!

Catholics differ in several major ways- they believe that souls are a scarce resource (the Guff) and that their Pope is somehow related to God (that's why they wait for smoke to turn white [I believe] before a new pope can be sworn in. For the most part, they are similar to other Christian faiths. However, I do not trust any churches in North America because of all the sin that's going on- like paedophilia, incest, polygamy, and so on!! Until these people repent and leave me alone, I refuse to go near a church! The fact that there are so many differences within the church, and there are so many people in the church taking advantage of other people, even within their own congregations, is revolting! All you have to do is watch the news and you can watch people, like Larry King Live, interviewing sick losers, like in the Mormon church, taking advantage of people in their own churches at their personal gains in the name of God almighty!!

Catholicism was the original Christianity; the only form of Christianity for the next 1,000+ years; the only Christianity founded by Jesus Christ; and the only form of Christianity Christ ever intended to exist. He said that all His followers were to be ONE, even as He and His Father are ONE. That means all His followers being members of the ONE Church He personally founded; and that means all his followers being Catholic. Jesus never authorized the founding of any other churches in His name, especially manmade churches teaching bits and pieces of the truth. In fact, He clearly warned against it. Catholicism is full Christianity, complete and pure. All others are traditions of men, teaching a mixture of Christian truth obtained from the Catholic Church, and novel doctrines introduced by their various founders. The fact that their beliefs conflict with one another on virtually every point is clear proof that their tradition is riddled with untruth, for truth cannot conflict with truth.

Let me put it this way:
While all Catholics are Christian, not all Catholics are Christian.

While Catholicism is the largest denomination of Christianity, there are many denominations:
Baptist, Lutheran, Mormon, 7th Day Adventist, etc.

Both are the same thing. Catholicism is based on Bible and traditions, yet Christianity is all about relationship with Jesus Christ.

God Bless!

According to Christians who insist they are NOT Catholic, the Church was screwed up until 1500 years after Jesus started it.

They believe it took a rebellious German monk who decided to translate the Bible for himself to start "true Christianity". Since then, more than 30,000 denominations have created themselves, while the Catholic Church remains...the Catholic Church.

There will never be a shortage of people with delusions of grandeur who will assume divine authority and start their own Church, because they believe they speak for Jesus.

Mohammad was one of the FIRST of these "protestants", but he copied the heretical idea of the Arian Gnostic Arabs who lived in his area.

Catholicism is complete Christianity .... the "mother" church, founded by Christ himself.

All the denominations of Christianity subsist within the Catholic Church, whether they know it, or believe it, themselves.
