There have been cases. First time mothers are pregnant for nine months. Changes happen and it seems like everybody is bending over backwards to please the expectant mother. The baby finally arrives and the attention shifts to the baby.

Absolutely not. Not in a normal family anyways. Sometimes a daughter may not like a mother's rule/discipline and view it as jealousy. But I think if a mother is truly jealous something is wrong with her. I only want my daughter to be happy and have more than I do.

No it's not common. If a mother is jealous of her daughter then she needs to get her priorities straight and seek some therapy. You should want the very best for your child even if YOU don't have the best. I would wear rags and potato sacks to make sure my children had better clothing.

God I hope not. How horrible.
My mother and I have always had a very strained relationship, since my birth. My Grandma and aunts and others would tell me it was because she was jealous of me, and I didn't want to believe that as a kid, but I know now that she's VERY envious of me and my life. It's been horrible to have a mother who treats me like crap.
And my stepdaughter's mother is jealous of her also.
Thank god I'm so close to my girls! I hope it's always this way...I adore my girls and would never want to hurt them in any way! My stepdaughter is 14 and my own little girl is 1. I have a very close and good relationship with both of them.

Unfortunately it is very common. Especially for mothers who have had there daughters at young age. It's not right, but it does happen.
