Wisdom teeth extraction can be complicated, especially when the teeth are impacted, requiring excavation from the jawbone. Dry socket is a painful inflammation of the wound site. Other risks include wound infection and damage to the trigeminal nerve, which is responsible for sensation in the eyes, teeth, gums, lip and tongue.
The nerve has three branches; the one most at risk during wisdom teeth extraction is the third branch, which controls feeling in the lip, gum and half of the tongue

It depends if they are impacted. If they are not impacted it is the same as other molars. If it is impacted you have to go to an oral surgeon. When I had mine removed two were impacted and they had to cut and break the teeth into little pieces to get them out.
