Your working memory, or short term memory, is easily distracted when there are other thoughts on the forefront, or when subconscious thoughts are taking up too much of your desktop (conscious mental space).
Slow down, unclutter your thoughts, pay special attention to what you are doing, and you are much less likely to forget simple things like daily tasks.

Because the world we live requires too much from us...especially if you are a woman. We are multi-taskers. We run kids to school, throw on a load of laundry, go to work, stop at the store on the way home to get some food, pick up the cleaning, get ready for a PTA meeting, and throw in the wet clothes into the dryer. Why do we forget things...because we have a very full plate...sometimes the old brain goes TILT!...and I know I have left out at least a dozen more things we do on a daily basis!

Even though we supposedly have easier lives because of the computers and cell phones and PDAs and every other conceivable gadget, we have more and more to remember. My father came home from work at night, and actually spent some down time, reading the paper and watching tv.
We may be doing the same thing, but we are also on the computer, or texting or listening to the tv in the background while we are getting dinner, helping our children with homework, finding time to exercise and on and on.
We have to make time for all of these things, because we are so plugged in all of the time. It's wonderful that all of these things have brought the world closer for all of us, but when you find yourself in a public place listening to someones private conversation about their latest surgery or fight with their significant other....it's no wonder that we cannot remember if we locked the door when we raced out in the am.
We are very overworked, overstressed and definitely overscheduled. I had a friend that was diagnosed with cancer, but was "not able" to find time to schedule her initial treatments until her husband took a day off from work and practically bodily dragged her to the doctors...he also took away all of the gadgets so that she would not be calling and answering and texting while she was supposed to be resting to enable the treatments to help her.
The great thing is that she is physically fine now, and actually enjoyed being unplugged and spends time now without all the gadgets, walks out of her job at night and on the weekends, and she if off. She jokes around about her memory being so much better than it was before she learned to just sit quiet and breathe and live.
Have a good night, and remember to relax and take some breathing time for yourself. Your memory will thank you.

That's what happens when try putting too much clutter in there. Some people are better at organizing and setting priorities, but we all do it. We have to do some things by habit or we'd spend all are time figuring what to do which is very inefficient. What bothers me more is to realize that I've been doing something bass ackwards unthinkingly for all those years.
