When the dentist mentioned "grinding", he was referring to drilling the tooth to remove the decay. There is probably a small amount of decay on one of your front teeth, or those close to the front, what we call the "smile teeth". The composite, is a resin filling material that is used primarily in anterior teeth (or the smile teeth) but has become more common over the years to use in the posterior teeth as well. With the composite material, it is matched to exact shade of your natural teeth so that it is not noticeable. A lot of patients have chosen to have the old silver or amalgam fillings removed and have the composite fillings placed for cosmetic reasons. You may have noticed that with actors, actresses and singers. You never see any fillings. They all have composite fillings! Hope I've been of some help. Good luck!

It sounds like that you are grinding you're teeth and causing some wear on them. Your dentist may be wanting to filling in this wear with a white filling material. Very easy & nothing to worry about.

he's going to remove a cavity and replace it with a tooth colored filling! which will last for about 4-5 years.
