The $100.00 is not the cost of the Visa. It is the fee established for the PROCESSING of the Visa Applications.

It it were the cost of the Visa, everyone who paid $100.00 would be granted entry to the USA.

Probably for the same reason people from the US have to pay visa fees to enter other countries such as Turkey, many African countries, China, Russia, Mongolia, etc. It covers the costs of administration and background checks, etc., and deters people applying for the visa who aren't really serious or who have no real way of paying for their trip or supporting themselves when they arrive.

HA Dont complain I paid 650$ for a work visa to ireland for only 4 months! 100 is nothing!

you don't have to pay but don't hold your breath for your Visa to be process because Immigration officer won't have no Visa Applications from you!!!

why now i need have a passport to reenter United States my own country, guess what it going cost money to get it?

Who else should be paying the administrators who do the paperwork processing, background checks, etc.? Their work hours cost money.

$100 seems cheap to me for processing visas..I pay $80 ( I think ) just to get my passport renewed...
