Make sure you use a professional brand product that specializes in moisturizing and conditioning your hair. My favorites are the Cloud 9 line by Brocato. This is what they say about them (and the claims are true - I've used these products to restore and revive my hair - the mouse is the best - NOT sticky and hard, a conditioning leave in treatment - it's incredible):
Cloud 9 Miracle Repair System ...for Hair that's 3 Times Stronger!
Hair havoc - we're all guilty of it. Sun, styling, chemical service - they all deplete hair of essential nutrients and significantly weaken hair's structure. Add everyday exposure to environmental stressors, and hair is in constant state of survival. The result is weak, dry, damaged tresses ... in need of a miracle.
Cloud 9 Miracle Repair System in an amazing new regimen designed to leave hair 3 times stronger! Each product is formulated with Brocato's exclusive Cloud 9 Miracle Repair Complex, a special of healing nutrients, fortifying plant proteins and UV protectants proven to leave hair 3 times stronger. Weak, dull, lifeless hair is transformed. Body, bounce and shine take over...It's not a dream. It's a miracle!

For extremely damaged hair, you do not want to buy cheap hair products (sorry, I hate to say it, but Wal-Mart shampoos and conditioners are chalked full of oil that coats your hair to make it soft, not repair it). I recommend Redken Smooth Down Shampoo, Conditioner. Also, after using the combo, I recommend using Rusk sea-kelp lusterizer cream or Redken All Soft cream. I also highly recommend the Pureology line of shampoo and conditioner, which is specifically designed for color-treated hair. This line is rather expensive, but, again, it is specifically designed to rejuvinate hair damaged by color. But seriously, I would not recommend the products that are available at convenience stores. You want to use professional products for extreme problems.

K-pac by Joico is very good. You can get it where professional products are sold. You will also have to stop coloring for a while, to really see some improvement.
