someone said something about this the other day and its irritating me because if i cant join the military because im an olnly child ill be very irritated

thanks for all of your answers whoever said that joining the navy or airforce well would be great but i cant be a fighter pilot my eyes suck and the navy dosnt see major action anymore im looking at the marines right now

You can join. The rule they are discussing was from when the Sullivan sons were all killed while serving on the same ship. It is called the Sullivan Act.

Yes, an only child can join the US military. Also, someone on Yahoo Answers erroneously stated that an only child is exempted if there were ever a draft in the future. Being an only child has never in US history been an exemption from being drafted.

Yes an only child can enlist and I should know I am an only child and I was going to enlist in the Army but then I found out I was pregnant and decided not to. Went through with physical and did everything but swear in.

Of course you can enlist. Just make sure you know what you are getting into. For an interesting history lesson, read about the Sullivan brothers and you will understand why this myth is perpetuated.

My nephew is an only child and is currently in the US Air Force. So yes you can enlist if you are an only child. Best of Luck.

Of course you can, the Sullivan Act involves siblings, with the option of leaving if a sibling is killed.

Yes, of course you can. It's just you don't have an out like you would if you have a brother. If you join and your bro dies, then you have the option to leave.

You can join. In time of war, they would not let ALL the boys in a family join, nor would they let brothers be stationed in the same place.
